Drilling superintendent recruitment in Saudi Arabia

Last reviewed

We crew drilling superintendents and wells leaders into the Kingdom. This page is for operators and contractors who need leadership on the well — not another junior drilling-engineer list.

The seat we actually work

Drilling superintendent recruitment in Saudi Arabia is a leadership hire: the person who owns the well programme, holds the contractor interface and signs the tour. A well-site supervisor or well-site leader holds a tour on that programme. This desk takes both when the seat is scarce wells leadership. It is not a junior drilling-engineer volume page.

The phrase “drilling engineer recruitment agency Saudi Arabia” is already a contest between large panels. We do not spend this page trying to out-shout that head term. Gas and Oil Recruitment is a British international desk. To Western-HQ buyers we describe ourselves as an oil and gas recruitment agency; inside the Kingdom the useful word is international. We place people who have run comparable wells — onshore, offshore, workover or completions — not CVs padded with a single well title.

Roles this desk will take

Leadership on the well

  • Drilling superintendent / wells superintendent
  • Well-site supervisor and well-site leader
  • Completions superintendent or completions lead
  • Workover and intervention leadership where the well is the product

How the hire usually arrives

  • A single vacant superintendent seat on an operator or contractor programme
  • A short campaign: several well-site and completions leads for a peak
  • Contract secondment where the well time is finite
  • Permanent wells leadership when the operator wants the person to stay

Quota is not a sales objection we talk past

Engineering Saudization at 30% across 46 professions has been in force since 30 June 2026. It applies to private-sector establishments with five or more workers in those professions, and oil and gas engineer is one of the listed titles. A Saudi engineer counts toward the quota only with Saudi Council of Engineers accreditation and a registered monthly wage of at least SAR 8,000. Wells leadership that is genuinely scarce still moves — on the operator or contractor’s quota, not around it. If the seat is a Saudizable engineer title with a ready national market, we will say so rather than take a fee to fail.

Wells campaigns and when superintendent seats usually brief

Published Gulf hiring commentary puts the strongest hiring windows at September to early December and January to the start of Ramadan, with July and August the slowest. That is general GCC hiring commentary, not a wells-specific study, so we use it as a guide to approval speed rather than a rule. A single vacant superintendent or a short campaign of well-site and completions leads can be briefed in any month, including urgent rig cover; expect slower approvals in midsummer. GETI 2026’s Middle East drilling-supervisor contractor day rate is a published regional reference, not our fee and not a seasonal price list.

Published market marks — not our fee

GETI 2026, published by Airswift on 4 February 2026, lists a Middle East contractor day rate of $1,098 for a drilling supervisor. That is a published regional figure for a related wells-leadership title. It is not a Saudi-specific rate and not a margin we quote.

What this house will put its name to

Gas and Oil Recruitment is a British London specialist oil and gas recruitment desk. We do not invent client logos, placement counts or awards.

Western seats we actually work

  • Country, functional and programme leadership
  • Drilling and wells superintendents, and well-site leaders
  • Oil and gas project directors and EPC delivery leads
  • Mining engineers and EPCM leadership on minerals programmes
  • Permanent commissioning managers who stay into operations

What we refuse

  • Graduate, technician or high-volume crew farming
  • Employer-of-record or iqama processing as a product
  • A Saudization or SCE workaround
  • Doorway pages for every Gulf city
  • Client logos, placement counts or awards we cannot evidence

What to send with the mandate

  • Well type and basin or field context
  • Operator or contractor seat
  • Rotation or resident
  • One vacant superintendent or a campaign
  • Start and expected well count

Related pages: executive recruitment when the seat sits above the well programme, project director when the package is delivery, and commissioning manager when the well programme hands to start-up. Mining seats sit on the mining and EPCM page.

Hiring-manager questions

Drilling superintendent or well-site supervisor?

A drilling superintendent owns the well programme, holds the contractor interface and signs the tour. A well-site supervisor or well-site leader holds a tour on that programme. This desk takes both when the seat is scarce wells leadership. It is not a junior drilling-engineer volume page.

One vacant superintendent or a campaign?

Either. A single vacant superintendent seat on an operator or contractor programme, or a short campaign of several well-site and completions leads for a peak.

Is the GETI drilling-supervisor figure your fee?

No. GETI 2026 lists a Middle East contractor day rate of $1,098 for a drilling supervisor. That is a published regional figure for a related wells-leadership title. It is not a Saudi-specific rate and not a margin we quote.

When should we brief a wells campaign slate?

For peak mobilisation, many clients brief in autumn or just after new-year budgets so shortlists exist before Ramadan slows approvals. A single urgent superintendent can be briefed any month; we will say if the seat looks Saudizable with a ready national market.
